Eigenthal Talks on Consciousness, Science, and Politics

THE QUESTION IS HOW OUR OWN MEANINGS ARE RELATED TO THOSE OF THE
UNIVERSE AS A WHOLE. WE COULD SAY THAT OUR ACTION TOWARD THE WHOLE
UNIVERSE IS A RESULT OF WHAT IT MEANS TO BE US. David Bohm

Today, the key questions at the core of science are based on the belief that science already understands the nature of reality. However, many fundamental questions remain unanswered, and science is often being restricted by assumptions that have hardened into dogmas. According to these dogmas, all reality is material or physical. The world is a machine, made up of dead matter. Nature is purposeless and consciousness is nothing but the physical activity of the brain.

In the spirit of the Eigenthal Talks, new questions will be addressed in open-minded discussions with an audience interested to investigate inspiring new insights from science, philosophy, and consciousness studies. Where does consciousness really come from, and how does it fit into our ideas about the nature of life and the human future?

At the core, the Eigenthal Talks aim at creating new knowledge by contributing to build a peaceful, and sustainable world, in which humanity uses science as a tool for collective orientation.

  • We are alarmed by the disconnect between the urgency of global problems and the way politics and international communities are dealing with them.

  • We see decision makers meeting behind closed doors and out of touch with reality. At the same time, activists and civil society organizations are gathering outside the meeting rooms, and are often presenting constructive solutions to the problems. But their proposals are not taken seriously.

Key questions of our time

The Eigenthal Talks offer a wide expansion of knowledge to discuss key questions of our time.

Leading researchers from the philosophy of mind, environmental philosophy and science, neuroscience, quantum physics, artificial intelligence research, the mind sciences and Buddhism as well as post-growth economics appear at the Eigenthal Talks and present their theses.
